COMMON CORE PRESENTATION SLIDES AVAILABLE ONLINE
The Power Point slides from the recent presentations on the new Common Core Standards are now available in pdf format on the District website. More than 100 parents and residents attended the recent information sessions led by Assistant Superintendent Ms. Kelli Cogan.
The presentations focused on an overview of the Common Core Standards for both Reading and Math, and provided parents with valuable and specific grade level examples. School officials also fielded questions from the audience.
A list of frequently asked questions generated from the Q & A portions of each session is currently being compiled and will be posted online shortly. Please watch the blog for that additional information, which we hope parents who were unable to attend either event last month will find useful in addition to the Power Point slides.

EQUIPMENT DONATION AIDS ECC’S MODERATE INTENSIVE CLASSROOM STUDENTS
ECC’s moderate intensive classroom received a gift of a “squeeze machine.” It provides deep pressure and compression for students who seek this type of sensory input. It helps the classroom students calm their bodies and minds and helps them organize the outside stimuli that can be very difficult for them to process.
A special “thank you” to Joe Little, whose Five Horizons Foundation donated the funds for the piece of equipment. For more details about Five Horizons Foundation, click HERE. For a video students made to thank Joe Little, click HERE. The new “squeeze machine” was dedicated in loving memory of Colleen Cottingham, a dedicated paraprofessional at the ECC, who passed away over the winter break. POWER ANNOUNCEMENT LAUNCHED – REMEMBER TO SET YOUR PARENT PREFERENCES
Olmsted Falls School District launched its new school notification system, called Power Announcement, this week. This notification system is loaded with new features that will make it easier for the District to keep in contact with families. Power Announcement provides the ability to contact parents via email, voice and text messaging. Parents have the ability to set their own communication preferences for various types of messages through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOG IN TO YOUR POWER SCHOOL ACCOUNT TO SET YOUR PARENTS PREFERENCES FOR EACH OF YOUR STUDENTS.
To download the “How To” Parent Guide that was included in the launch email earlier this week, please click HERE.
ALSO REMEMBER THAT PARENTS MUST OPT-IN TO BEGIN TO RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES. Phone and email contacts are already selected. If you do NOT wish to receive voice messages or emails to a particular contact within your profile, simply click the checkbox to remove the default setting.
Parents with questions about Power School and/or the new Power Announcement, or in need of assistance in setting parent preferences can contact your child’s school building. We hope all parents will appreciate this new communications system, and the flexibility and efficiency it will provide.
AUTOMATED ATTENDANCE CALLING NOW UNDERWAY
Beginning this past Monday, February 3rd, Olmsted Falls School District began utilizing the Automated Attendance Call feature of Power Announcement, the new parent communication system also launched this week. Parents of students in any school building marked with an unexcused absence for the day now receive personalized automated phone call notifications regarding their student’s absence. While we did encounter a couple of system glitches in the initial calls early in the week, the issues we quickly remedied and the system is now functioning properly. Thank you to those parents who may have received calls in error due to these glitches. This new system enables our buildings to contact parents in a more efficient manner regarding student absences. If you have any questions about the new automated attendance calls, please contact the office at your child’s school building.
