BULLDOG STUDENTS PART OF POLARIS RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT TEAM HEADING TO NATIONALS

Polaris Restaurant Mgmt teamTwo Olmsted Falls students are part of the Polaris Career Center’s Restaurant Management team that placed first at a state competition. Their top spot at the 2014 ProStart Invitational Culinary and Restaurant Management Competition earned them a trip to compete at the national level in Minneapolis in May.

OFHS/Polaris students are Elizabeth Nunemaker, junior, seen in the front row, third from the left, and Morgan Anderson, junior, back row, fourth from the left. Their teammates are Renne Ondrejech, senior, Berea-Midpark High School; Ashley Brunner, junior, Fairview High School and DeVan Anderson, junior, North Olmsted High. This competition allows students from programs around the state to showcase their culinary and academic  talents in a real world setting.

In this competition students presented an original concept to judges that demonstrate knowledge of the operation and success (profitability) of a food service establishment, also creating a name and logo design.  The presentation includes menu design and food costing, facility design and decor, marketing strategies, employment practices and human resources.  The team also had to answer a barrage of critical thinking questions from a panel of food service experts.

Congratulations to Morgan and Elizabeth and best wishes at the national contest!

music therapy This Sunday, February 23rd, from 5:30-9 p.m., the community is invited to attend a benefit for Music on a Mission’s music therapy program in OF schools.  Ms. Susan and Mr. Paul, the Music on a Mission’s musicians, come to the OF district every month. The nonprofit organization sponsors the music therapy program that has been coming to the District’s moderate-to-severe special education classrooms this year. The fundraiser will help keep them aiding our students.

This Olmsted Schools/Community Potluck begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Barnfull of Tunes, 31950 Krebs Road, Avon Lake. Please bring a dish to share and your favorite beverage. There is a $10 donation.

At 7, the band “Just Us” will play. The band’s lead singer, Melinda Brunner, the director of OF’s ECC, is excited about the opportunity to support the music therapy program that visits her building each month to enrich the lives of her very special students with their special needs.

Those who already have dinner plans are invited to the concert and bring snacks and beverages for the show.   Fire regulations limit the number of participants at the Barn, so please RSVP to Jim Miraldi, the band’s leader, at jim.miraldi@gmail.com or Marilyn Zeidner, the mission’s director, music@musicmissioninc.com or 216-407-0601.

The program is family friendly and includes rock and roll, country and folk music originally performed by the band’s favorite artists from the 1960s through today. To learn more about Music on a Mission, click HERE.
