OFHS ACADEMIC TEAM ON A WINNING ROLE IN  TV APPEARANCES

Academic challenge 1

The OFHS Academic Team’s recent winning taped appearance on Channel 5 Academic Challenge program saw members tie for second place on the leader board. Team members are Emily Burland, Andy Nageotte, Xavier Rivera and alternate Zach Buchta. They competed against Kenston and Kent Roosevelt and scored 680 points. The episode will air at 7 p.m. May 10th on TV 5. Posing with the team is advisor Rhonna Smith in the photo on the left.

There are four matches of the show remaining to be taped. The team will learn March 2nd if it plays in the finals, in which the top three teams Brain Game TVcompete. The Bulldog team will attend Westfield Insurance’s April 17 luncheon to be honored as one of the top teams.

The team also competes in the Brain Game that airs on TV 10 Columbus. Members played Upper Arlington from the Columbia area.  OFHS won the match, 390-240, which places the team in eighth place on that top 10 leader board. There are four matches left to tape. The Bulldog contest will air at 7 p.m. on Columbus’ Channel 10.

Congratulations to the team who fields the same members in both competitions – GO BULLDOGS in future competitions!

Attention All Bulldog Parents: Olmsted Falls PTA is pleased to present a timely and informational presentation for parents covering critical topics relating the cyber world our children our living in today.  Please join Olmsted Falls PTA and Olmsted Falls School District as we welcome a special speaker from the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on TUESDAY, MARCH 4th at 7:00 p.m. at Olmsted Falls High School Auditorium.  Mrs. Caroline Wathey from the Cuyahoga County Prosecutors Office will present critical information parents need to know about the apps our kids are using, laws pertaining to the internet, cyber bullying, and more.  All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend, however we ask that you please do not bring students to this event.

OFHS BOWLING TEAM EARNS INAUGURAL TRIP TO STATE

bowling teamCongratulations to the Olmsted Falls Bowling Team for placing first at Districts this weekend. The team is headed to bowling medalState competition for the first time in school history.  The team effort of all eight players included Paul Katz, Dan McFadden, Jake Olszewski, Andy Oltmanns, Chad Kuchenmeister, Nate Paliska, Colin Kuchenmeister and Chris Kuszynski.

Each bowler participated in the huge win!   Coaches Chuck Carver and Eric Kuchenmeister have led the boys to a fantastic season. We wish the boys and their coaches luck at State competition.  Go ‘Bowl’dogs!!!

9TH GRADE PARENT ORIENTATION MEETING FOR INCOMING CLASS OF 2018 – THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5TH

OFHS TRACK AND FIELD PARENT MEETING – THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5TH @ 7PM

TrackThe preseason parent meeting for high school track and field will take place on Wednesday, March 5th at 7PM in the high school media center.  Parents of high school athletes who are participating in track and field this year should plan on attending.

PERFECT SEASON FOR 4TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL!

OFBAThe 4th grade girls OFBA team had a PERFECT season, with a 24-0 record!  The team won the Lake Erie Basketball League regular season, and were the LEBL end of the season tournament champions.  The girls also took first place in the Tiger Rage Pre-Season tournament, the Bulldog Holiday Classic, and the Independence Youth Tournament!  Team members included 3rd graders Kylee Urban, Sydney Moses, Mia Kalich, and Paige Kohler and 4th graders MaddySagerman, Sara Glover, Sammie Gaba, Aubrey Thiel, Katie Voisinet, and Lauren Noernberg. The team was coached by Dawn Moses and Kim Urban.  Great job Bulldogs!!

OFMS TEAM COMPETES IN MATH CONTEST

MathCounts OFMS students competed for the second time in MathCounts competition. The program promotes mathematicsMathCounts achievement through a series of fun and engaging “bee” style contests.

Team members at the Cleveland State University contest were Michael Struk, Jack Wu, Shalin Desai, Jake Dahlinger and Ben Allmandinger, who participated in the Sprint & Target competitive round.

DODGEBALL GAME A HUGE SUCCESS FOR RAISING SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

IMG_1007The OFHS PTA thanks everyone who attended the recent Dodgeball event.  It raised $4,000 to benefit the group’s scholarship Fund. It also thanks ECC, F/L, OFIS, OFMS and OFHS for supplying the teacher teams who competed and Mrs. Budd and Mr. Feller for the Pep Band that brought even more energy to the competition as well as those who refereed, helped with concessions, face painters and all others. In the end, OFMS relinquished the trophy to new champs OFIS!  Congrats OFIS!

PLANT TOUR OFFERS STUDENTS HANDS-ON LOOK AT MANUFACTURING

beckett16OFHS students from the computer integrated manufacturing and engineering design and development class went on the road for a learning experience.

Beckett Gas Company invited the students to visit and tour its North Ridgeville plant.  It is a leading manufacturer of gas burning parts that are used by major manufacturers of heating appliances throughout the world. A special Bulldog Thank You to Beckett that took the time to give the students a view of how parts are manufactured.

TWO STUDENTS NAMED HEALTHY HERO FOR MONTH OF JANUARY

Healthy HeroDonte Roberts, a Falls-Lenox third grader, and Ava Piktel, an ECC student, are January’s Healthy Heroes.healthy hero

The Healthy Hero Program helps teach kids in grades pre-K to 3rd healthy habits, such as eating healthy, exercising every day, power washing their hands, coughing and sneezing in their sleeve and sleeping well.  Students earn a small prize for doing healthy tasks at home. Each month, participants are entered into a drawing to win a $5 gift card from Toys-R-Us. Posing with Ava in the photo on the right is her mother and Lauri Roberto, ECC’s kindergarten teacher.

A BIG CHEER FOR THE OFMS BLUE CREW

blue crewThe Blue Crew, OFMS’s cheering section, created added excitement at the OFHS’s varsity basketball games.

More than 150 Blue Crew members attended three varsity basketball games.

It is the hope that their  enthusiasm for the high school’s athletic teams and the Bulldog culture continues through their high school years.

HELPING HANDS DANCE 4 CHARITY IS HUGE SUCCESS

Helping Hands dance Slightly more than $11,000 was raised at last week’s Helping Hands Dance 4 Charity Fundraiser. The proceeds will go toward  Autism Speaks, CTSF, Special Olympics, SWAN USA, and Helping Hands!  Team “We’re Bringing Polka Back” raised the most money overall for its charity (SWAN) with a total of $2,662 in donations. Volunteer DJ, DJ G-Z, provided the perfect mix of dance music in the main gym for the participants on the 18 dance teams. Bulldog 2010 grad Stewart Hodges addressed the crowd with his inspirational life experiences about living with Mitochondrial Disease.

Teams showed up dressed in “spirit” with decorated shirts, wigs, glasses, beads, and even platform shoes! The “Most Spirited Team” trophy was awarded to “Team CTSF”. Many generously donated items were raffled, including a set of four tickets to an Indians game with an autographed photo of Jason Kipnis! For a glimpse of the photo gallery, click HERE.

OECPTA SAFETY TOWN 2014 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN 

safety town logoDo you have a child starting Kindergarten in the fall?  If so, Safety Town is a child accident prevention program for incoming kindergarteners.  It is a program that introduces safety awareness and preventative procedures to the children.  Children practice real life situations before being confronted with situations on their own.  Safety Town is the foundation of safety education.

Safety Town in Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township is organized through the Olmsted Early Childhood PTA, a non-profit organization consisting of volunteers who seek to unite home, school and the Olmsted community in promoting education, health and safety of children, youth and families.  Children who attend will practice safety “out on the town” in a miniaturized city layout designed to teach children safety near roads, railroad crossings, while on their bikes or walking in their neighborhood.  Videos, songs and lessons with visits from local Police, Fire and Bus Departments as well as field trips to Police and Fire Departments, all help your child enjoy and understand what he or she is learning.

Registration opens March 1, 2014.  Payment reserves your child’s spot and must be received by May 10, 2014This dates for this year’s Safety Town session are as follows:

ACT PREPARATION OFFERED AT THE OLMSTED FALLS LIBRARY

Huntington’s ACT Prep Test Workshop was developed for college-bound high school students and is designed to guide them through the college entrance exam process. High school students need to be as prepared as possible. Students will take an actual practice exam. Participants must attend the follow-up on Wednesday, March 12th at 7 pm to learn test results, discuss strategies to improve their score and tips on preparing for the real exam.

OF LIBRARY “LEGISLATOR FOR A DAY” READING CONTEST FOR GRADES 1-6 STUDENTS

bookshelfThe Cuyahoga County Library’s Olmsted Falls branch and State Rep. Mike Dovilla invite students in grades 1-6 to join a reading program in which one participant from each branch will be selected as Legislator for the Day and spend a day in Columbus.

Students who read five books and record them on a book mark by March 14 will be placed in a drawing.  The winner from each branch will receive a VIP tour of the Ohio Stathouse, which includes participating in a mock legislative hearing and lunch with Rep. Dovilla. Registration is available at the Library.

OF SCHOOLS INVITED TO COMPETE IN MILK CARTON COMPETITION

milk carton contestEvergreen Packaging, which has a plant in Olmsted Falls, invites OF students to use their creativity to build art creations from recycled school milk cartons. The Spring 2014 Made By Milk Carton Construction Contest’s theme is “Stories.” Teams may use 100 or more cartons to build a character, symbol or scene from a story. Entries are now being accepted until April 16.   Schools may win up to $5,000 for their creations.

OECPTA BARGAIN BONANZA IS MARCH 8TH 

bargain bonanza redoneOECPTA-sponsored consignment Bargain Bonanza  is March 8th at the OFMS cafeteria.  Items for sale that are at great prices include children’s clothing, toys, various gear and maternity clothes.  The early bird hour is from 8-9 a.m., with a $5 entrance fee. General hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a $2 admission. The bag sale is from 2:30-3:30 p.m. that offers $3 a bag and large items at half price. For more details, see the flyer by clicking HERE.

LOCAL PRESCHOOL HOSTS ADULTS NIGHT OUT – TONIGHT – SATURDAY, MARCH 1ST

Olmsted Community Preschool will sponsor its third annual Adults Night Out FUNdraiser at Razzles/Rockers Café from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 1st.  It includes all-you-can-eat wings and pizza with limited beverages.  There also is a 50/50 and Chinese raffle. The cost is $20 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door. For questions, call 440-235-3869. Come join us for a fun-filled night.

OLMSTED COMMUNITY SUMMER LEAGUE

summer baseball imageOlmsted Community Summer League registration is now OPEN for summer baseball and softball leagues. This program is open for boys and girls between the ages of 4 thru 18. Please register online at www.olmstedcc.com through the Olmsted Community Center website under “Youth Programs”. Our In-house registration is Sunday, March 9th at the OCC located at 8170 Mapleway Dr, Olmsted Falls. Registrations AFTER March 31, 2014 will be charged a late fee, so register now! Practices begin mid May and games will start June 2nd.

New this year is our Co-ed Adult league. Register as a team or individually. Please contact Tracey Rinas at (440) 591-0865 with any questions or for additional information regarding the Co-ed Adult league.
