IMPORTANT SCHOOL SAFETY INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

The Olmsted Falls School District community extends our sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers to everyone associated with the terrible shooting incident at Chardon High School this past Monday.  First and foremost, as parents and as communities, we want our children to be safe while at school.

Please click here to read the message sent by Dr. Hoadley to Olmsted Falls’ parents following this week’s tragedy.

As an additional resource, we also strongly encourage all parents to review the letter that was sent out last spring regarding social media and what you can do to help ensure your child’s interactions are appropriate and safe.  Please click here to read the letter from OFHS Principal Dr. Hill and OFMS Principal Mr. Kurz sent to all parents of Middle and High School parents last May.

STEVE HARPSTER SPEAKS TO STUDENTS AT FALLS-LENOX

Author and illustrator Steve Harpster spoke to the students on Monday, February 27th as part of Right to Read Week at Falls-Lenox.  Mr. Harpster’s presentation began by discussing a surprising connection he has with the school – he drew the artwork for the “Kelso’s Choices” program taught at Falls-Lenox!  He also showed his artwork from first grade to present to emphasize the role of imagination and “practice” to succeed.

The second portion of his presentation was interactive.  Students brought pencils and paper so they could follow along as Steve drew characters on his iPad.  He showed them how to draw pictures from numbers and letters – such as a shark from the number 4, a sea turtle from the number 10, and a monster from the letter “S”.    At the conclusion of the presentation, Steve asked everyone to show him their favorite drawing as they exited.  Students and teachers alike proudly complied.  Afterwards, many said it was one of the best presentations they had seen.

Steve generously offered to do his presentation at no charge to the school or the PTA, and 30% of the book sale goes back to Falls-Lenox.  A flyer was sent home a few weeks ago, however it can be viewed HERE .  The books “Drawing Animals with Numbers”, “Drawing Monsters with Letters”, and “Drawing Sea Animals with Numbers” may be purchased for $6 each through March 5th.  Steve signs each book and draws an original picture on the inside cover.  Parents and students may also view Steve’s instructional videos at Harptoons.com
