IMPORTANT MESSAGE ON SCHOOL FUNDING FROM SUPERINTENDENT DR. HOADLEY
On March 24, 1997 the Ohio Supreme Court declared in the DeRolph decision that the funding system, in place for Ohio public schools, “failed to provide for a thorough and efficient system of common schools” as required by our state constitution. Since that time, a series of fixes and patches have been proposed in an attempt to ease our state’s school funding challenges. To date, this difficult problem has not been solved.
Last Thursday, Governor Kasich unveiled his proposal for a new system of funding Ohio public schools. I am encouraged by Governor Kasich’s school funding proposal, not because of the specifics of this plan (which I feel merit close study) but rather because this proposal has reinvigorated a state-wide conversation about this most important topic. OFMS FRIENDS OF RACHEL CLUB CREATES MEMORY WALL – BY FAITH TOPOLSKI, 8TH GRADE
To honor our lost loved ones, the middle school Friends of Rachel Club created a memory wall. Students of all grades wrote a name of someone they have loved and lost on a heart. On the back of the heart, students described what they would do given the chance to spend one more day with their loved one. The Friends of Rachel Club has also put up this wall to honor those lost in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Losing someone we love is difficult, but remembering them with friends and family can help heal the hurt.
