Eddie applying makeup to his model during the show's tapingThe OFHS art department had the honor Thursday, Sept. 12 of a visit and presentation from Eddie Holecko, a local artist and son of district employee Jan Holecko. Eddie, a Berea High grad, is a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he is working on his Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual effects. Last spring Eddie was selected as a participant on the TV competition “FaceOff.” The show was taped in the spring, but is now airing on the Syfy Channel at 9 p.m. Tuesday nights. Mariel Krakowiak, the school’s visual arts teacher, said everyone is watching and supporting his process! During his visit, Eddie shared his experiences at Berea High, Savannah College and his experiences on FaceOff. Here is a photo showing Eddie applying makeup to his model during the show’s taping. For additional photos from Eddie’s visit to OFHS art classes last week, please click HERE.

A GIFT FROM A BULLDOG PARENT AND PEARL JAM FANS

OF iPad redoneThe ECC’s moderate to intensive full-day preschool received a wonderful gift through a parent’s effort.

Dad Joe Little created a blog about his favorite rock band Pearl Jam.  Through his efforts, those of his 400,000 followers and concert events, enough money was raised to purchase a classroom set of iPads. Pearl Jam fans are known for supporting charitable projects.

ECC is using the iPads as communication devices.  It also has, however, according to Alison Doick, ECC’s intervention specialist, endless opportunities to use the devices for visual supports, social stories, video modeling and more.  The iPads also provide a seamless way to bring the gap between home and school to promote generalization of skills across many settings. A big thank from the littlest Bulldogs to all involved!

OFHS STUDENTS MAKE STRONG SHOWING AT NATIONAL ROBOTICS TECHNOLOGY COMPETITION

Picture4Congratulations to the team of OFHS students Mat Bender and Moises Garcia Ponce, whose first place performance at the Ohio SkillsUSA Mobil Robotics Competition last April earned them a spot in National Competition in Kansas City, MO, this summer.  The competition, held June 23-29, was to build a robot using  VEX robotics  parts.

The robot had to be able to move bean bags from specified locations and place them in troughs  on the competition floor.  Each team was challenged to design the robot to move autonomously  and  humanly driven.  They had to design the robot before the competition and rebuild the robot at the competition in one day.

After four rounds of competition, our Bulldog team earned an impressive 6th place in this prestigious national competition.  To view additional photos from the competition, please click HERE.  Kudos to Mat and Moises for their hard work and success!  Great job!

District school buildings are currently reaching out to Bulldog families who have not yet completed this important annual information update for their student(s).  If you have not completed online registration for your student(s), please watch for these important communication via email and regular mail.  Please note that the district’s new online student registration system replaces the paper forms – including the emergency medical cards – that are normally sent home at the start of each school year.
