As the current school year draws to a close, Olmsted Falls School District is already busy preparing for NEXT YEAR (2015-2016). ALL BULLDOG PARENTS WILL NEED TO BE PREPARED WITH THEIR POWERSCHOOL USERNAME AND PASSWORD in order to update information and forms for their student(s) for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. Parents will receive an e-mail notification with instructions in early August when the online system is opened and ready for parents to make the required annual updates to student health information, emergency contacts, back-to-school forms, etc.
Making sure that you have the correct PowerSchool parent login information available NOW will make this annual process much simpler and smoother. If needed, we invite you to download and print this “Bulldog Password Keeper,” which you can use to record your PowerSchool Parent Account login information – along with any other school related logins you might want to keep handy in one place.
All Bulldog parents should have existing PowerSchool parent accounts. Please note that you will not be able to access the online student information update system using a student PowerSchool account; you must have your PowerSchool parent account username and password to access the necessary link from within PowerSchool.

REMEMBER TO SUBMIT ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION REQUESTS BY JUNE 15TH
Parents needing to designate a single alternative pick-up / drop-off address for their students for the 2015-16 year must submit an Alternative Transportation Form by June 15th. AP HISTORY STUDENTS COVER IMPRESSIVE GROUND DURING 4-DAY TRIP TO NATION’S CAPITOL
A group of AP students from Olmsted Falls High School just returned from the annual AP History Trip to Washington, D.C. During their 4-day journey (May 16th-19th), the group – led by OFHS Social Studies Teacher Mr. John Mercer – visited 18 historical sites – including eight monuments. Stops included: The Smithsonian, Union Station, Mt. Vernon, Theodore Roosevelt Island, The Holocaust Museum, The US Capitol, The National Zoo, Monuments (Jefferson, Lincoln, Iwo Jima, Vietnam, Korea, FDR, MLK, WW II), Harpers Ferry (WV), Gettysburg (PA) and the Flight 93 Memorial.
OFIS GREEN TEAM BAGS ‘STUFF’ ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
The OFIS fifth-grade Green Team’s clean-up day saw 40 students and three adults with trash bags scour the 5-acre campus to remove any unwanted items on the ground. The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste Management District provided the garbage bags. The students were split into small groups and were surprised by the amount and variety of waste on the school grounds. They didn’t realize how much there was until they got close to it on the ground.
They decided the athletic fields, which are also used by groups outside the school district, need trash and recycling cans to keep those areas clean. They also recommended that all those using the property do a clean-up check before participants and fans leave the grounds.
The Green Team students, who had small trash bags, filled three large ones. They not only made the campus cleaner, but had a blast doing so. To see a photo gallery of the clean up, click HERE.
FIRST GRADE PREVIEW NIGHT SET FOR MAY 26TH
Parents have an opportunity to tour Falls-Lenox Primary School on First-Grade Preview Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26th. Principal Colleen Longville will give a brief presentation that night so parents of first graders will have any questions answered. The final Falls-Lenox/ECC PTA meeting of the year will follow. Babysitting will be available. With this service, parents may bring their younger children to the tour, and then stay for the PTA meeting that includes refreshments. Invitations to the event were sent home in students’ backpack this week.
MEET THE VOLLEYBALL COACHES NIGHT
Current and prospective volleyball players are invited to the Meet the Coaches Ice Cream Social from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26th in the OFHS cafeteria. Meet some of the 2015 OFHS and OFMS coaches. All current and future players and their parents are welcome.

Parents: You may view the list of courses your student scheduled for the 2015-16 school directly in Power School. Click on the CLASS REGISTRATION link on the left of the screen when logged into it. Be sure to contact your student’s school counselor should you have any questions. Counselors are available through June 10th to discuss your student’s course selections for the next school year. Evening appointments are available on June 9th and daytime appointments are available on June 10th. Please call 440-427-6116 to schedule an appointment. THE DEADLINE TO MAKE ANY COURSE ADJUSTMENTS/CHANGES IS JUNE 10TH.
FRESHMAN OPEN HOUSE: Incoming ninth graders for the 2015-16 school year are invited to a Freshman Open House at OFHS from 9-11 a.m. Friday, August 14th. A copy of the student’s schedule will be available to pick up and guided tours of the building will be given by Student Ambassadors.
STUDENT AMBASSADORS: Student Ambassadors are meeting from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 12thin the OFHS media center. Ambassadors will make welcome posters for the incoming ninth-grade class and call new students to invite them to the Freshman Open House on Friday, August 14th. Ambassadors are also invited to help us welcome the Class of 2019 at the Freshman Open House from 9-11 a.m. August 14th..

2015 BULLDOG SUMMER SPORTS CAMP INFO ON DISTRICT WEBSITE
When school is out for summer, Bulldog students will have many opportunities to stay active with a variety of 2015 Bulldog Summer Sports Camps that begin in June. The OF Athletic Department has posted a list of sports camps available to students this summer – including camp dates, registration deadlines, contact information and links to individual camp forms and registration details.

STUDENT HEALTH CARE PREPARATIONS FOR 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR
Health Care Action Plan: If your child has a medical condition that may require treatment at school, such as asthma, diabetes, seizures or severe allergies, etc., you will receive a Health Care Action Plan from your child’s clinic staff. The forms will be sent home prior to the end of this school year. These action plans, which the parent and physician will complete, provide staff with detailed care information should your child become ill at school. The forms should be completed over the summer and returned to the clinic in August during the first week of school.
If your child will need to take medication at school, a medication order form is available on the district’s website.
Medication Pick Up: If your child has medications at school, please arrange for an adult to pick them up prior to the end of this school year. You will receive a notice from your clinic as to days/times. Medications not picked up by Friday, June 12th will be discarded.
New grade 7 students: Ohio law requires a Tdap booster vaccine given prior to entry into the seventh grade. Please bring in your documentation that this is completed to your health clinic in August during the first week of school.
The OFHS Class of 1995 will celebrate its 20th class reunion June 20th at the West Side Irish-American Club. The event is from 6-11 p.m. For more details, contact Carly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
KIDS TO RAISE FUNDS WITH KICK-IT FOR CANCER EVENTS
The OFIS will have its fifth Kick-It for Cancer Field Days on May 26th and 27th. (The 4th grade Kick-It for Cancer Field Day is May 26th (rain date: May 29th); the 5th grade Kick-it for Cancer Field Day is May 27th (rain date: May 28th). These field days, which K-Kids sponsors, allow children to raise money for pediatric cancer. Kick-It was founded in Chagrin Falls by Quinn Clarke, 10, during his second battle with cancer. Kick-It partners with medical advisory boards to identify promising research projects and clinical trials. They focus on raising money so the researchers can focus on finding cures.
After a few weeks of raising money, OFIS students will play kickball during field day as a way to celebrate and honor children who are kicking cancer out of their lives.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL JOHN SANDERS GOLF OUTING – MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR JULY 25TH!
The 20th Annual John Sanders Memorial Golf Outing is Saturday, July 25th! This event is open all golfers and “want to be” golfers and will be held at Creekwood in Columbia Station. SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM AVAILABLE @ NORTH OLMSTED SITES
The 2015 Summer Breakfast, Lunch & Snack Program is available to all children and students free of charge to those ages 1-18 in the Olmsted Falls community. It begins June 8th and runs through August 21st. The location at Horizon Center begins June 16th, however. Breakfast is available only at Horizon Center; lunch at seven locations and the afternoon snack at two sites. All food must be consumed on site. This is a USDA program.

PAWS FOR SOME FUN AT BARK FOR LIFE THIS SATURDAY
Olmsted Falls Relay for Life will host its annual Bark for Life fundraiser this Saturday, May 23rd in front of the OFMS. Registration begins at 10 a.m., including $15 registration fee at the door. Pre-register for a $10 fee per dog and $5 for a second canine. Dogs will receive a Bark for Life bandana. Opening ceremonies begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a 1-mile walk. Afterward, there will be games, activities, food, treats and fun. CANCER SURVIVOR/CAREGIVER? JOIN 1ST LAP @ BULLDOG’S RELAY FOR LIFE
Local cancer survivors and their caregivers will take the celebratory first lap at the annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life on June 6th at Olmsted Falls High School stadium. The Survivors Lap will start at 1 p.m. Anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer may participate in this honorary lap around the track. Survivors also will be honored with a free lunch from Chick-Fil-A, a T-shirt and a “goody” bag, which includes free coupons. The five-year survival rate for all cancers has risen to 68 percent. There are an estimated 14 million Americans alive today who have been diagnosed with the disease.

SUMMER CONCERTS BEGIN IN JUNE
The Sunset Country Band is the featured group for the first monthly concert that Olmsted Falls’ Parks and Recreation Board annually sponsors.
The concert is from 6-8 p.m. June 28th at East River Park.
The Brunch Box will be parked at the concert with several food selections.

OF SOCCER ASSOCIATION/KSU SUMMER CAMP READY FOR PLAYERS, CLINICS JUNE 22nd-26th
Register now for the official OFSA camp For players ages 3-14 set for June 22nd through June 26th. This summer camp at the Schady Road complex is designed for two levels – Soccer-Tots, ages 3-7 that is a development-level clinic for new players or recreation level players and a Travel/Club for ages 7-14, which is a technique and skill-focused clinic for travel players. OCC OFFERS SUMMER BASKETBALL, TENNIS CAMPS

SUMMER ART AND FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAMS OFFERED THROUGH OLMSTED RECREATION
Youngsters in kindergarten through grade may enjoy a week of creating art programs from June 15th through the 26th at Olmsted Falls Intermediate School. The program is through the Olmsted Rec.
