Parent Update – August 27, 2015
On August 19th, the school district was informed that Olmsted Falls High School made the Top 500 List of America’s Top High Schools for 2015. Only 34 high schools in the State of Ohio made the list.
The ranking analysis completed by Newsweek created a weighted College Readiness Index that included data from indicators that are not simply test score driven. They included:
· College Enrollment
· Graduation Rate
· Weighted Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate/Dual Enrollment composite
· Weighted SAT/ACT composite
· Student Retention which determines changes to student enrollment between 9th through 12th grades
· Counselor-to-Student Ratio
The District is pleased to have been notified that we made the list (#489) as it is a testament to the hard work, determination and cognitive strength of our students, teachers and parents. “The fact that the ranking is based on a more robust measure of high school success metrics that extend beyond test scores is something that is important to us,” said Dr. Lloyd. “We’re really trying to engage our students, teachers and parents to help us more clearly define what academic, artistic and athletic success looks like.”

The Olmsted Falls Board of Education is pleased to welcome a new treasurer/chief financial officer (CFO) to the Olmsted Falls City School District. The Board voted unanimously at a special meeting held August 6th to approve the hiring of Mrs. Emily Dales as the new treasurer/CFO of Olmsted Falls City School District. Mrs. Dales, who assumed her new post this week, comes to Olmsted Falls City Schools from Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools near Columbus, OH, where she has served as assistant treasurer for the past two years.
“Mrs. Dales brings to Olmsted Falls Schools not only a strong understanding of school district finances from the accounting side, but also a keen ability to communicate and work effectively with our many stakeholders including staff, students and community residents,” said Board of Education President Jim Weisbarth. “Her leadership and passion for excellence in education will be a great benefit to our district, and we look forward to welcoming Emily and her family to our school community.”
Prior to serving in her most recent position as assistant treasurer for Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools, Mrs. Dales also served as assistant treasurer and accounting supervisor for Wadsworth City Schools. Mrs. Dales began her career with a CPA firm where she worked exclusively with school treasurers and school district financial reporting. It was that early career experience that sparked her desire to serve as a school treasurer and have an ongoing impact in the continuation of a school district’s outstanding reputation.
“I am overjoyed to have accepted the treasurer/CFO position in a well-established school district with a proven reputation for excellence in education,” said new Treasurer Emily Dales. “The District pride felt throughout the Olmsted community is contagious and I knew shortly after visiting that this would be a great fit for both me and my family.”
“I look forward to working in a district with a history of strong and positive working relationships among the Board of Education, the Office of the Treasurer and the Office of the Superintendent,” added Mrs. Dales. “I look forward to promoting the District’s financial position and to working with an amazing administrative team in continuing the success of Olmsted Falls Schools.”
Mrs. Dales holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Walsh University as well as an Ohio School Treasurer’s License from Ashland University. Mrs. Dales is an active member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO), the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), and the Ohio School Boards Association. Mrs. Dales and her husband, Doug, plan to relocate to the Olmsted community, with their three young children, this fall.

REQUIRED UPDATES OF RETURNING STUDENT INFORMATION/FORMS SUBMITTED FOR 70% OF STUDENTS DISTRICT WIDE – INFORMATION/FORMS FOR REMAINING 30% OF STUDENTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY SEPTEMBER 15TH
Many thanks to all of those parents and guardians who have already logged in to your PowerSchool Parent Accounts and submitted the annual required student information updates for the current 2015-2016 school year. Approximately 30% of students district wide still need to have their information reviewed, updated and submitted. Please note that this information MUST BE UPDATED BY SEPTEMBER 15, 2015 in order for your student to continue to attend school. Students without completed information/forms updates after September 15th will be prohibited from attending school until the required updates have been submitted to ensure that all health and emergency contact information is current and correct in the event of an emergency.
This annual update that all parents of returning students are asked to complete includes important Emergency Medical and Emergency Contact information and is critical to the safety of your son/daughter. All parents of returning students should either already have an existing PowerSchool Parent Account or have been contacted by your child’s school building with information regarding setting up a new PowerSchool Parent Account, which will allow you to access the link to update information for your student(s).
If you have an existing PowerSchool Parent account, know your username name and password, and would like to login now to complete this important update for your student(s), please click the following link: https://psof.nccohio.org/public. Once you have successfully logged in to your account, please click on the “Returning Student Registration” link, located on the left-hand side of the screen to get started. NOTE: Updates must be made separately for EACH student in your household, however the system will automatically transfer basic information changes made in the first student’s record (i.e. address, email or phone number) to the next student’s record to make the process of updating multiple students more efficient.
If you need assistance in accessing or setting up your PowerSchool Parent Account, please contact your child’s school building as soon as possible. Assistance can be provided for those who may not have access to a computer or the internet. Individual buildings will begin following up directly with those families who have not yet completed the online student information update next week – please plan to watch for and respond to these important emails.
Thank you to all parents and guardians for helping us to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information for your child each school year.

All 37 buses in the Olmsted Falls School District’s fleet were rolling August 19th – the first day of school. The Ohio Highway Patrol inspected, passed and authorized each bus for operation. The OFSD maintains a positive working relationship with the Ohio Highway Patrol and its local Motor Vehicle Inspection team. Kudos to our drivers and mechanics for their ongoing diligence throughout the school year to keep our buses in top operating condition.
The Ohio Highway Patrol Motor Vehicle Inspection team returns to OFSD throughout the year. In October of each school year, it participates in actual ride-alongs on our buses to monitor traffic, bus and pupil safety as part of National School Bus Safety Week.
REMINDER: WITH BUSES ROLLING AGAIN, PLEASE REMEMBER TO ABIDE BY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS RELATING TO SCHOOL BUS SAFETY (i.e. stopping/waiting during student pick-ups and drop-offs). THANK YOU!
