OFCS Update – April 7, 2017
OFCS NAMED AMONG BEST COMMUNITIES FOR MUSIC FOR 11TH YEAR STRAIGHT
The school district continues its streak with music accolades. The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) again designated the Olmsted Falls school district among the 2017 Best Communities for Music Education. The district has received this honor 11 consecutive years. NAMM selected 527 school districts across the country for the honor this year.
The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Olmsted Falls answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. School officials verified the responses that The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas then reviewed.
Prior research has found links between students in community music programs and academic success in subjects such as reading. That is why music programs prove an excellent opportunity for students to excel in the other disciplines.
Congratulations to all for making Olmsted Falls among the best music education communities in the country!
Eight kindergarten students from Mrs. Strawser’s full-day class at the ECC made a special visit to the monthly Board of Education meeting in March to share with Board members their love of reading. These special guests read a poem about reading, sang a fun ABC song and showed off their fast developing skills by reading with Board members and adults in the audience. These small but mighty bulldogs did a great job and everyone enjoyed their visit!
