OHIO STATE SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT TESS ELSHOFF VISITS OFCS
Ohio State School Board President Tess Elshoff spent a day touring the Olmsted Falls School District this week. On Wednesday, April 12th, Mrs. Elshoff joined Superintendent Dr. Jim Lloyd and visited several buildings and classrooms across the district. They spent time at Falls-Lenox observing innovative guided reading activities in a first grade classroom, visited the new Maker Space stations at OFIS, checked out Project Lead the Way Engineering and Robotics classes at OFMS, and observed a marketing class at OFHS.
While at OFHS, Mrs. Elshoff received an extended building tour from Principal Holly Schafer who reviewed the upcoming expansion and renovation project made possible by the passage of the zero additional taxes bond issue this past November.
In addition to her classroom visits, Mrs. Elshoff met with district administrators and Olmsted Falls Board of Education member Linda Parkowski, and also spent time talking to with Olmsted Falls teachers.
OFCS extends our sincere thanks to Mrs. Elshoff for spending the day with us to learn more about Olmsted Falls City Schools!

FALLS-LENOX STUDENTS EXPLORE UNIVERSE WITH STAR LAB!
Last week, Falls-Lenox students explored our universe inside the Natural History’s portable planetarium, Star Lab! Crawling through a tube into a large dome took students to a spectacular night sky. There, students were able to identify ten key constellations of the spring sky and learn about the ancient Greek and Indian mythologies behind those stars. Parents can ask your student to teach you about Orion and how he can send us around our horizon to other attractions!
Star Lab was out of this world! Thank you to Mrs. LaGruth and Dr. Kolozvary for teaching each class and sharing your love of science!

OFHS MASQUERS PRESENT LERNER AND LOEWE’S BRIGADOON – APRIL 28 & 29TH
Please join us at Olmsted Falls High School for Masquers’ production of Lerner and Lowe’s classic musical, Brigadoon. Performances are Friday, April 28 at 7:30 and Saturday, April 29 at 2:00 and 7:30 in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased at the door on the day of the performance or can be reserved by emailing Christie Cutarelli at email@example.com.
Many of the songs from the Brigadoon, such as “Almost Like Being in Love” have become standards. The story involves two American tourists who stumble upon Brigadoon, a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every 100 years. Tommy, one of the tourists, falls in love with Fiona, a young woman from Brigadoon.
The original production opened on Broadway in 1947, and there was a 1954 film version starring Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse.
Come see the talented student performers at Olmsted Falls High School!
RIGHT TO READ WEEK AT ECC WAS A ‘BUGGY’ HIT
Thank you to all the wonderful people who made Right to Read Week at the ECC a lot of fun for the kindergartners and preschoolers. The theme was “Buggy About Books.” The kids did hands-on activities incorporating math and science, all while learning about bugs and the importance of reading.
A Big Thank You to the amazing FL/ECC PTA!! They generously purchased books so that each kindergartner and preschooler received three free books during the week.
Another thank you to the RTR chairperson, Rachel O’Malley, who was instrumental in scheduling a visit from local author, Michael Samulak. The children also met our public Librarian, Sue Grame. She provided an amazing puppet show for the kids. They all had a great time.

The Olmsted Falls Athletic Booster Association again is sponsoring the 2017-2018 annual physicals date for student– athletes who currently are in grades 6-11 in need of a physical for the upcoming school year. The discounted price is a reflection of the strong relationship between the booster organization, Southwest General Health Center and the Bulldog Wrestling Program assisting with the details of the event.
May is the ideal time to secure this Ohio High School Athletic Association requirement, as the 2018 expiration date will not inhibit the student-athlete on missing out on a practice or competition due to a mid-season expiration.
They will be available from 4-7 p.m. May 23rd in the OFHS gym. No appointment is needed. For more details, view the flyer by clicking HERE.
