OFHS SPANISH DEPARTMENT INDUCTS EIGHT STUDENTS

On February 13th, the Olmsted Falls High School Spanish Department inducted a talented group of students into the Juan Rulfo Chapter of “La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.”  The ceremony took place at the Mexican Restaurant, Maya,  in Berea.  Following the induction ceremony, the Spanish teachers, the inductees and their families enjoyed a delicious meal to celebrate the success of these students.

“La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica” is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and/or Portuguese, which the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese sponsors.  It was formally organized as the Spanish National Honor Society in 1953.  The name was changed to “La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica” in 1959.  There are now over 2,000 national and International chapters.  The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish language and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic studies.

BALDWIN WALLACE STUDENTS “DRESS UP” THEIR TEACHING UNITS FOR ECC CLASS

A team of Baldwin Wallace University students recently presented mini-units to students at our Early Childhood Center.

As the photo suggests, this early childhood social studies and science methods student is teaching a lesson from a 4-lesson mini unit in costume as the Statue  of Liberty. All of the BW students had the opportunity to present their own mini-lessons as their fellow BW colleagues looked on.  This provided a great opportunity for debriefing with each other afterward.

OLMSTED HOT STOVE BASEBALL STILL SEEKING 3-4 PLAYERS AGES 9-10

OF baseball association flyer pixAlthough players do not have to be evaluated for these travel
teams, the time commitment necessary is higher than that required in community recreational baseball. Hot Stove is not an instructional league. Players should possess a moderate knowledge of baseball rules and whose skills allow them to play at a moderate to high level of competitive baseball.

The season begins around May 1 and ends around mid-July. A typical season consists of 12 to 20 regular season games followed by a year-end league tournament. Teams may also decide to participate in private tournaments. We have great returning coaches and are always looking for more. You can indicate your willingness to volunteer with your child’s sign up online. You can also make any special requests online. Teams may elect to practice during the winter months; however, team rosters are not finalized until all
registrations are received and final team rosters are formulated by the OTBA

Sign-ups have been extended for players age 9-10 as a few spots still remain for this age group.  Register online at – http://www.olmstedcc.com.  Any questions please reach out to jeff.kocmit@olmstedtravelbaseball.com.
